Mini Masterpieces for the ecumenical food bank

  • Food prices are up (along with just about every other expense) and hunger never goes away.

  • As a club we try to help out the Ecumenical Food Bank year-round by donating as much money as we can, earned through our "mini masterpiece" program.

  • This week we have an open studio on Tuesday, 8/16 from 12:30 to 3:30, which is an ideal time to pick up canvases, paper, frames, etc and to even start or finish a Mini-Masterpiece.

  • Mini canvases as well as many small frames are available through the club.  Members donate their time and talent. If you cannot make it this Tuesday, stop by the art club on any Tuesday or Thursday from 11 - 3 to pick up mini canvases, watercolor paper, mini mats and frames. This is a year-round fundraiser!

  •  100% of the proceeds are donated to the local Ecumenical Food Bank.  Summertime is the perfect time to create a few of these small paintings.

  • When you have finished creating your mini- masterpiece, please ensure the piece is ready to hang. All mini’s should be signed, sealed, backed, and wired for hanging  prior to bringing them in for sale.  Bring your completed works to the Art Club on Tuesdays,  and/or Thursdays between the hours of 11 amand 3.

  • The Children and Families of this community thank you!

Introduction to Sumi-e Watercolor (all levels)

Jan Jamil   703-477-1065

We covered the first 2, bamboo and cherry blossoms, in the first class (no worries, you can easily catch up!) The second class we'll be practicing more with our calligraphy brushes and I will introduce strokes for the beautiful ground orchids as well as the flag iris. The third class I will be finishing the 4th Gentleman - chrysanthemum strokes.  If they decide to continue, we can try some fun things Sumi-e style - like sparrows, rocks, chickens, pine trees, mountains, cats, etc.

Do you have your own calligraphy brushes? No worries if you don't, as I have plenty of brushes you can borrow. I also supply the Sumi ink, mixing dishes, black felt place mat, practice newsprint paper and rice paper. You can bring your brushes, watercolor paints, 2 water containers, paper towels.

Look forward to seeing you in August!
