FEATURED ARTIST FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL
 Precious Joy Lalama

Precious Lalama is a Sebastian-based mixed media artist originally from Indiana. Considered a child prodigy, she was accepted to the Art Institute of Atlanta, Georgia at just 11 years old while still in the sixth grade. Her lifelong creative journey has been shaped by storytelling, emotion, resilience, and the belief that art can be both expressive and healing.
Precious works primarily in acrylics, creating bold and emotional pieces inspired by nature, wildlife, water, movement, and personal storytelling. She also explores sculpture, mixed media, handmade jewelry, sewing, pyrography, and watercolor. Her work often reflects themes of resilience, transformation, strength, healing, and human connection.

Over the years, Precious has worn many hats, including business owner, company leader, student of child psychology, and foster parent to children with complex medical, emotional, and behavioral needs. Her interest in child psychology was deeply connected to her belief in the healing power of art and her desire to use creativity as a form of therapy and expression.

Precious’s journey has also been shaped by profound hardship, including serious illness at a young age, deep personal loss, and seasons of rebuilding her life from the ground up. During some of the hardest chapters, art was not only her emotional outlet it became the work that helped provide for her children and keep her family moving forward. Those experiences continue to influence the depth, emotion, and resilience found in her work.

Her artwork has been featured all over US  and other countries, reaching collectors and viewers far beyond her local community. With nearly 1,000 pieces of artwork sold, Precious’s work has reached homes, collectors, and communities across the country and beyond. One of her proudest accomplishments is her rendering of Chief Anderson, which is displayed at a museum in Indiana and remains a meaningful connection between her art, history, and her hometown roots.

For Precious, art is more than creating something beautiful. It is about telling a story, creating emotion, and leaving a lasting impression.  “It’s not the mark you make on the world, it’s the mark you make on people.”
