Artists’ Statement: Gemstones are a gorgeous piece of earth and it's fascinating what the earth gives us in the world of natural beauty.

I found that wire wrapping is an interesting and creative craft that is fluid in a way to hold a stone without glue or metalsmithing.  I want to share my knowledge to give people the opportunity to create beautiful pieces of jewelry that they love for themselves or to give and put a smile on someone's face.

Bio/Education & Experience:

I was born in NY state and lived there most of my life.  I am 1 of 8 children (5 girls and 3 boys).

In 2017 I retired from my job at IBM/Globalfoundries after 33yrs and moved to Vero Beach with my boyfriend of 13 yrs.  I have 2 children and 6 grandchildren who now all live in Virginia Beach.

I first got interested in trying this craft called wire wrapping during the covid year of 2020.  During that year I watched many YouTube videos and joined some Facebook Jewelry wrapping groups.    I familiarized myself with all the tools and types of wires used for the craft and it has been an interesting journey learning this process and I continue to learn every day.

I am 100% self taught in this craft and I enjoy helping others on my FB groups learn the process and the needed patience to hone in on their abilities.  I have had my jewelry pieces place 1st and 2nd in the Sebastian Art Club Judged shows, it has been displayed in the Vero Museum of Art and I was picked as an up and coming artist in the Sebastian Fine Arts Show.

I am also a watercolor artist.  I retired in 2017 and in 2018 I became interested in watercolor to give me a hobby to keep busy. I am pretty much self taught and then in 2019 I joined the Sebastian Art Club in order to challenge myself and improve my work on shadowing and fine details.

The wrap wrapping class will be a show and tell step by step process and I will be helping each person if needed to complete each step along the way.

We will be starting off doing wire loops and twisting to manipulate the wire around the stone to hold the piece together with just wire.  In time and with interest, we can move onto more complicated processes like the weaving and wrapping aspects of the craft where there are so many possibilities for beautiful pieces to be created.

I also do beading and this is something we can also get into if anyone is interested in making a beaded pendant necklace.
