Juried members of the Sebastian River Art Club (SRAC) began using the Community Room for meetings and open studio painting, at 1245 Main Street.  Soon after, the Club was granted permission to make cosmetic repairs to the unused portion, and open an art gallery for the benefit of the citizens of Sebastian and the surrounding area.

A committee of SRAC members took on the job of repainting the walls and making minor repairs and allocating space for members to hang and display their art work in the various individual rooms.  The committee further dedicated the largest room for special exhibits as well as for prominent non-member artists from the area and other events. Some of those displaying over the years were Stepping Stone Quilters, several local photographers, wood carvers, and the work of children from the Sebastian Elementary School.

On a space available basis, members are invited to hang their work in a designated assigned area for the nominal fee of $5 per month, payable in a quarterly installment of $15.  Participating exhibitors are obligated to sit in the gallery at least 4 times a year, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. welcoming visitors and opening and closing the Art Center.  Those not wishing to sit in the gallery must pay a fee of $10 per month/$30 per quarter.

If you are interested in hanging your work, you can make arrangements with the member who is on duty for the day or contact Sheila Lougheed at 203-648-3138.
