Centennial Exhibit Changes

Friday, April 19th, the Centennial Exhibit currently at the North County Library of Route 512 in Sebastian will be coming down.  Exhibitors are reminded to come to the North County Library between 10 and 10:30 AM on Friday April 19 to pick up their Centennial Painting. 

On Saturday, April 20th the Centennial Exhibit will be displayed in the City Tent during Artbor Day and Earth Day Celebrations. Please bring your Centennial Paintings on the morning of April 20th between 8 and 8:30 am to be displayed in the City Tent during Earth Day celebrations.

Beautiful Lagoon Show

April 20, 2024 (Beautiful Lagoon Show in conjunction with Sebastian’s Earth Day Celebration).

 

This year's deadline for submission of Art Entry Forms is the end of Business,
THIS TUESDAY April 16th. 

Art will need to be brought to the park the day of the show between 8am and 8:30am for hanging. (Pick-up art at 4:00pm).  
Two Cash and Ribbon Prizes will be awarded for 1st ($75.00) and 2nd Place ($25.00)  in the People's Choice Category.
Votes will be counted and prizes will be awarded at the end of the day.
 
Centennial Paintings will also be displayed in the city tent, so please plan on bringing your centennial artwork for display on April 20 between 7:45 and 8:30 am.
We are planning on having runners on Harrison Street to bring your Artwork to the City Tent.

           Pre-registration is required! Class is limited to 15 people. Pre-Registation is required by email, text message or phone call to the instructor.
           Note Cost of This Class: $40 for each member, $50 for nonmembers. Price includes (1) one piece to be created, 2nd piece is an additional $8 members & $10 nonmembers.
            Description of the Class: This class introduces you to the fun and versatile world of mosaics. I will take you from the beginning prep stages all the way to grouting your finished piece. Have fun designing your mosaic with a wide choice of tiles of all shapes and sizes. Additionally, I will show you simple cutting techniques of your tiles to fit an odd space. I will have reference pieces and pictures to inspire your creation. Note: Any unwanted costume jewelry can also be used, if you choose to bring it in, to add to your piece. We’ll see if it can be incorporated into your creation.
           Supply List: Acrylic paint, D-hooks, mosaic tiles, substrate (base), glue, grout.

2024 Scholarship Winners

Each year the Sebastian River Art Club awards three $1000.00 Scholarships to applicants who are pursuing further education in the Arts.

Two of these scholarships are from direct fundraising by the Art Club throughout the year.  The Third Scholarship is made possible through the generous Donation of the Fine Arts and Music Festival Organizers to our Scholarship fund.  We thank them for their generosity.

On the morning of April 9th we were honored to present one of the scholarships to recipent Caleigh Pressley who is furthering her studies in Art and plans to become an Art Teacher.

Caleigh is pictured below with Fine Arts and Music Commission members Nancy Veidt, Nane French and Richard O'Connor.  In the second picture, our Scholarship Chairperson, Betty Hays presents Caleigh with her Scholarship Certificate.

The two other Recipients  chosen by our scholarship committee members were unable to be with us that Tuesday Morning.  They are:
Lidia Olivo                Sebastian River High -- wants to be UX/UI designer
Dulce Contreras       Indian River Charter High School -- wants to work for Disney Animation

SRAC Meeting and Show Schedule for 2024 Season

Below is our planned Club Schedule for the 2024 season.

  • Saturday, April 20, 2024 (Beautiful Lagoon Show in conjunction with Sebastian’s Earth Day Celebration)

  • Tuesday, May 14th, 2024  Members Business Meeting: 5:30 PM at the SRAC Gallery

 

SRAC Fees for the Park Shows have not changed:  $10.00 for those that sign-up and pay in advance and $15.00 for those that  pay on the day of the show. Sign up sheets for advanced signup will be available at the Business meetings as well as in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11-3.

  • May thru July - Various indoor Venues are currently being discussed. No outdoor venues scheduled due to the summer heat.

  • August 9, 2024 - Sebastian Grill Out Night:  Display for Grill out Night at the SRAC Gallery

  • September 14th, 2024 - Artists' Rendition of 100 years in Sebastian - SRAC Art Center

  • December 6, 2024 - Chamber of Commerce Light-up Night - SRAC Art Center (official participants

April 2024 SRAC Art Classes

All classes are $15 for members, $20 for non-members, unless otherwise noted. Please contact the individual teacher to register and for a supply list. Classes may be canceled due to under-attendance.

 

NOTES:  

  • Archibald Classes require a minimum of 4 Students to take place

Description: Ongoing class for intermediate and advanced watercolor artists that come for guidance in improving their existing style. Emphasis on learning to pay attention to values in your subject before you start a painting, literally dissecting the subject and observing the different values before you start.

 

Supplies:  Watercolors, brushes, paper towels, water containers. Either 300 or 140 pound watercolor paper recommended, but 300 is suggested for its strength and blending properties. Also water containers, watercolor brushes…#0, 1, 2, 3, 6, Flat# 2, 4, 6, 8.  One large 1 inch Flat brush for washes, gum eraser, wax free tracing paper, graphite pencil, fine red pen such as Pilot pens for tracing, box Kleenex, paper towels.

Recommend choosing a subject of one’s own as it may then be entered into shows, however the instructor can supply a subject for those who do not bring their own. Subjects provided in a class are not allowed in shows.

Description: Onging, fun class to finish old paintings or start something new! We focus on composition, texture, tone, spontaneity and technique. We give each person permission to continue, or start over, and promote expressive, inspirational and intuitive work.

Description: This class will focus on ocean and sand.

Come and enjoy playing and creating with adult chalk , A.K.A. Pastels. Pastels are fun and forgiving, making them a wonderful painting medium! Each class includes a short lecture and demo on subjects that will improve your technique in bringing your masterpiece to life.

Class subject examples:

   *Values and Hues

   *Buildings in a landscape 

   *How to create distance and depth

   *Water reflection with soft pastels

   *What's an underpainting?

   *How to Frame a soft pastel painting

 

Supplies:  Your painting will only be as good as your tools are. So take the time to invest in good pastels and paper. Suggested student supply list:

Reference photo: something that inspires you! Printed or on an Ipad or phone

Paper towels or a hand towel, rag size

Baby wipes

Artist tape or painter's tape. White or beige only!

Wax paper (try the Dollar Store)

16"x14" or larger masonite board (Home Depot)

Ruler and or T-square

Apron or old shirt ( to protect your clothes)

Gloves

Mask

Soft pastels and pastel paper.
