Registration for the 49th Annual Convention, the Convention Workshops, and the opening dates for the Annual Exhibition are coming up fast!
  
The Exhibition will be hosted by the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art in Tarpon Springs, September 19th – November 29th. 
 
The Convention, Trade Show, Workshops, and the rest of the festivities will be held at the Hilton St. Petersburg Bayfront, September 21st – 27th. 
 
Here are some changes to this year’s Convention details and Exhibition rules you should be aware of:
 
Convention Registration fees have been reduced:
·       Registration for active FWS members is $30.
·       Registration for nonmembers is $35.
·       Registration for students with a valid student ID is $10.
·       A special, one-day registration fee for busloads is $25 per person.  One person must organize this and pay the fees for the group no later than August 30th.  No paid events are included.

The Trade Show will be bigger than ever!
New vendors have been contacting our Trade Show Director since the last Convention to be included. Remember, the Trade Show is free and doesn’t require Convention registration.

Look for new types of presentations at the Convention:
·       Dean Mitchell will answer questions in an “Artist’s Studio”.  Focus will be on the business side of being an artist. Start thinking up your questions now. 
·       A panel of artists will cover how to get into national shows.
·       Many new as well as favorite artists will demonstrate their techniques.
 
Framing and Presentation requirements have been relaxed; read the Prospectus carefully!
·       Simple wood or metal frames less than 3” wide are acceptable. 
·       Colored inner mats are now acceptable.
·       Varnished paintings without glazing are eligible.  
·       Cradled, varnished paintings are eligible.  
 
Four Workshops offer something for everyone:
·       Michael Reardon’s 4-day workshop will help you simplify and create dynamic compositions, work quickly and decisively, and capture the essence of a scene convincingly.
·       Sandy Maudlin’s 4-day workshop is for the creative and experimental artist looking for new approaches to working on Yupo as well as paper, using a variety of materials.
·       John Bayalis’ 1-day workshop is for those who love realistic and glowing landscapes.
·       Dana Daydodge’s 1-day workshop is for all of us who have had a failed painting and are looking for ways to turn it in a new and fabulous work of art.
·       FWS Members may register for Workshops beginning March 1st; nonmembers may register beginning April 1st, space permitting.  Register on the FWS website.
 
It’s going to be a great Convention, especially if you are there.
